Looking for a base camp
Over the past two weeks, Bobbee and I have been driving all over Georgia looking at possible sites for our base camp. The Georgia State Park system has a number of "group camps," complete with everything from a dining hall to a beach, which groups can lease for a week or so at a time. Our favorite camps right now are Indian Springs, which has dormitory style housing and FDR, which is one of the most beautiful parks in Georgia. We've uploaded some pictures below of both camps.
Incubator begins
Last week, Bobbee and I attended the first of our Incubator Workshops in Teaneck, New Jersey. Over the course of four intense days, we met key board members of the Foundation for Jewish Camp, the other five directors who are in the incubator with us, and the faculty and mentors that will be guiding us on this journey.
A week of firsts
The past week has been filled with firsts. Last Monday, Bobbee and I met with Cheri Levitan for our first official Teva Treks Board Meeting. Yesterday was my official first day of work as the executive director. Next week, Bobbee and I travel to Teaneck, New Jersey for our first incubator workshop.
Incorporation!
As of yesterday, we are an official nonprofit corporation of the State of Georgia! It was pretty exciting to walk into the Secretary of State's office and file the articles of incorporation for Teva Treks, Inc. Next step...become a 501(c)(3)...any one know a good tax lawyer??
And so it begins...
Wow! Six months ago, Bobbee and I decided to put down an idea on paper. After months of brainstorming, collaborating, writing, interviewing, and WAITING...we found out this week that we're receiving A MILLION DOLLARS to turn our idea into reality. As our camp starts to grow over the next year, we'll post updates here for our friends, family, and future campers (we hope!) to read. Thanks to everyone who has helped us get this far!
